The short answer
Local RTSP transport does not guarantee offline startup. Wyze staff described a server-dependent boot sequence in August 2026. An October forum comment mentioned a planned change for an 18.x firmware branch, not a universal release date. That roadmap is not proof that your installed model and firmware can boot and stream offline.
Work through the checks
Record the exact model, firmware and direct-versus-bridge route. Note whether the camera has already completed pairing and RTSP setup while online.
First establish a working local stream with normal internet access. Save a private record of the endpoint and a visible, changing scene.
Use a reversible network rule to block that camera’s WAN access while keeping camera-to-viewer LAN access. Do not disconnect the whole LAN or confuse Wi-Fi loss with internet loss.
Observe the existing stream, then reconnect the client. If appropriate for your workflow, separately test a camera restart while WAN access remains blocked.
Restore the original network access and compare recovery. For a bridge, include account-token renewal and host restart in the dependency record.
What to verify
Report continuing playback, reconnect and cold-start results separately. Never turn a successful existing session or an unreleased roadmap feature into a general offline guarantee.
