Camera workflows

Camera views for a warehouse loading area

The short answer

Test moving detail and changing light, then budget network and storage for busy periods. A quiet-scene preview can hide the highest bitrate and load.

Work through the checks

  1. Match the requested channel or lens to the manufacturer’s numbering. A valid stream from the wrong channel can look like success while showing another camera.

  2. Lower one camera parameter at a time: frame rate, resolution or bitrate. Re-test motion and readable detail; a lower idle bitrate alone does not prove a usable moving image.

  3. Compare with a wired connection where practical, keeping the stream profile unchanged. This separates Wi-Fi signal or contention problems from camera encoding and viewer behavior.

  4. Estimate decimal GB per day as total Mbps × 10.8, then multiply by days and recording duty cycle. Add practical headroom and measure real files because variable bitrate changes with motion.

What to verify

Use representative day and night scenes, including empty scenes. Compare missed events and unwanted triggers before changing sensitivity; one successful alert is not a reliability measurement.
